month, automatic tax increases and spending cuts will kick in for all americans. danielle leigh is here with signs of a compromise. >> reporter: back from their turktu turkey dinners, lawmakers say they are refreshed and ready to compromise. republicans have been unwilling to raise taxes and democrats have been refusing to cut social security and medicare. now all that has changed. >> i'm willing to generate revenue. it's fair to ask my party to put revenue on the table. >> reporter: republican senator lindsey graham says he'll violate a plan not to raise taxes and democrats are open to reforming entitlement programs they have been pro teching. >> bring entitlement reform into the conversation. >> reporter: but it comes with contingencies. many republicans still want to raise revenue by capping tax deductions or closing loopholes, not by increasing taxes on the wealthy. democrats are still trying to keep some entitlement programs out of negotiations. >> social security set aside, doesn't add to the deficit. when it comes to medicare and medicaid, protect the integrity of the program. >>
